  • November 26th - Update from Fran Scott from New Zealand: Hello! A little update for today. I had my first win against Hong Kong in a tie breaker this morning. It felt great to finally win a game. This afternoon I lost pretty badly to Botswana. The wind had a big effect on the bowls, but I was definitely not playing my best regardless. I have 2 more games left in the tournament tomorrow against Spain and Fiji. They're both tough players so I will do my best. It's been frustrating to not play my best, but I am getting wonderful support from everyone back home and here so that's a good feeling. Adios for now!

    • fran_scott.jpgNovember 22, 2014 - Update from Fran Scott:  Hello from Christchurch! Just a little update for you. After a fun week of touring we arrived yesterday in Christchurch. The weather is very nice, mid 20s but it is incredibly windy which definitely has an effect on the bowls. I had a practice today and didn't do too badly, but it will be a hard week of bowling against some fantastic competitors. I'm very excited to be here, I have 2 games tomorrow against the Philippines  and the Netherlands. World bowls website will have updates, but I will send you another email midweek

  • November 12th - From Bowls Canada Boulingrin's facebook:2014 World Junior Championships at the Broadbeach Bowl Club in Queensland

The final section game between Grant and Australia had a scoreline that certainly was one-sided at 21-6. However not only did the Aussie player play "lights out" bowls always keeping the pressure on Grant, the Canadian was very unlucky several times during the match. At one point Grant threw a drive to take out the Australian counter and he hit it almost square on the nose, but instead of going ou...t of the head it just spun around and ended up in almost the same place. "One of those games" says Grant. "Sean schooled me on how to play bowls. He never missed. Grant finishes the singles event at 3-4 good for 5th.  On to the mixed pairs with game two tomorrow.

Nutana Lawn Bowling Club to Host 2015 Junior/U25 National Championship

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan | October 21, 2014

Bowls  Canada Boulingrin is excited to announce that the Nutana Lawn Bowling Club will  be the host of the 2015 Junior/U25 National Championships from August 3-10,  2015.  The co-chairs for the event are Rachel  Larson and Craig Downey.

After learning Nutana LBC was selected to host  the event, club members were thrilled.   Alex Scott won a gold medal at the 2014 National Championships in Winnipeg  in triples and is a proud member of Nutana LBC; “hosting the Juniors and U25  Canadian Championships is a great way of promoting and creating awareness about  the world of lawn bowls.  This is an  amazing competition that provides opportunity and showcases youth.  With the extra effort of those involved, we  will aim to create an experience that will not only benefit bowlers, but the  entire community”.

Nutana hosted the 2009 Juniors and U25 National  Championships and it’s hospitality and volunteer spirit is well known.  For the Juniors in 2015, members from other  Saskatoon clubs as well as Regina will be coming together to plan a similarly  successful event and look forward to welcoming all participants, officials and  supporters to the province of Saskatchewan.

Located in beautiful Buena Vista Park in  Saskatoon, Nutana Lawn Bowling Club is one of three lawn bowling clubs in the  city.  Nutana means “first born” and the  club is situated where the first settlement on the east side of the river in  Saskatoon was established.  The club  officially opened on June 7th, 1940 and has two greens.

  • October 21th - From Bowls Canada Website:  Canada wins North American Challenge, Sun City, Arizona | October 20, 2014.  After an  exciting three days of competition, Canada has won the overall competition over  the USA at the North American Challenge.   Canada won six of seven categories including overall Jarvis division,  overall Folkins division, Men’s Folkins, Women’s Jarvis and Women’s Folkins.  Canada started off strong on Thursday with the  Triples and Pairs, quickly pulling ahead of the Americans.  On Friday, the Americans had a big afternoon,  winning all but one match of the Fours and Singles and closing the gap in the  overall standings.  It all came down to  Saturday’s matches to determine which country would be victorious. At the end of the competition, Canada had a big win in the Folkins division, beating the Americans 31-15 overall. The Jarvis division came down to the last game and Canada narrowly won with a score of 26-24. The overall title is a combination of these two scores, giving Canada the go ahead and Champion title with a final score of 57-39.  The entire team played together as a unit and proved  that all the hard work and dedication put in before the event paid off.  While there were celebrations all around after  winning the entire competition, there were also some other highlights  especially for Katelyn Brierley of Team Jarvis, as this was her first  international win.       Davie Mathie, Team Canada’s coach was pleased  with the results; “We worked together as a team and our efforts paid off.  We came out strong like we planned and  maintained our dominance throughout the competition.  The Americans played hard and gave us a run  for our money at the end, but we stayed focused and came out on top”.  All  the results can be found at: www.scdlawnbowls.org
